چکیده

High energy g rays from the decay of the giant resonance in hot Sn nuclei were measured in the excitation energy range of 30–130 MeV. The excited nuclei were populated by inelastic scattering of a particles at 40 and 50 MeVynucleon. The resonance width was observed to increase monotonically with increasing excitation energy, from 5 MeV at the ground state to ,12 MeV at the largest excitation energy. Inelastic scattering predominantly populates low angular momentum states, and the observed width increase is thus attributed to fluctuations in the nuclear shape induced by temperature.

Low-temperature measurement of the giant dipole resonance width

The width of the giant dipole resonance (GDR) built on excited states was determined from a measurement of γ -decays in coincidence with 17O particles scattered inelastically from 120Sn. The bombarding energy was 80 MeV/u. A width of 4 ± 1 MeV, consistent with the width of the GDR built on the ground state, was found at a temperature T = 1 MeV. This result is in disagreement with adiabatic ther...

The properties of the giant-dipole resonance (GDR) are calculated as a function of excitation energy, angular momentum, and the compound nucleus particle decay width in the nuclei 120Sn and 208Pb, and are compared with recent experimental data. Differences observed in the behavior of the fullwidth-at-half-maximum of the GDR for 120Sn and 208Pb are attributed to the fact that shell corrections i...

Spin-vibrational 1 + States in 140 Ce

The properties of collective I π =1 + states in double even semi-magic nucleus 140 Ce are investigated in random phase approximation (RPA). The calculation of the B(M1) strength, elastic γ-scattering cross section σ γ (ω) and γ-decay width Γ γ (ω i) show that in 140 Ce the isovector spin-spin interactions concentrate the main strength of M1 transition at energy 7.89 MeV where the isovector spin...

Isovector Collective Response Function of Nuclear Matter at Finite Temperature

We study isovector collective excitations in nuclear matter by employing the linearized Landau-Vlasov equation with and without a non-Markovian binary collision term at finite temperature. We calculate the giant dipole resonance (GDR) strength function for finite nuclei using Steinwedel-Jensen model and also by Thomas-Fermi approximation, and we compare them for 120Sn and 208Pb with experimenta...
